Lake Balaton is the largest lake of Central Europe, 77km long and 14 km wide at some places. The Tihanyi peninsula (Tihanyi-félsziget) reaches into the “Hungarian sea” at its Northeastern part, the relief, flora and fauna of which attracts tourists.  It can be easily accessed from the Southern shore as well with a scheduled boat trip. The Balaton Highland National Park (Balaton-felvidéki Nemzeti Park), the Badacsony wine region and the Tapolca basin (Tapolcai medence) borders the lake from the North. Its water is deeper in the North and shallower in the South but is really great for swimming on both sides. Several waterside towns are worth visiting due to the abundance of spectacles and programs, like Tihany, Balatonfüred, Tapolca, Keszthely, Fonyód, Zamárdi, Siófok. Animals, plants, parks, boat riding, fishing, swimming, palaces, castles, gastronomy and music festivals, thermal baths and spas. Furthermore, the town is home to the exceptional men’s handball club team of Hungary, Telekom Veszprém.

is on the Tihany peninsula (Tihanyi-félsziget) which is rich in spectacular natural features, reaching into the Balaton. One of the interesting programs of the town is the Tihany echo (tihanyi visszhang), created between the Abbey of Tihany and Echo Hill, when buildings have not yet bar the free travelling of sound to and fro. In clear, silent weather it can still be experienced, especially in the winter. From the towers of the Tihany Benedictine Abbey (Tihanyi Bencés Apátság) all of Lake Balaton can be seen, the church and the vista from its towers are equally impressive. The town is also famous for its lavender plantations, the Tihany Lavender Festival and the Lavender Weeks (Tihanyi Levendula Fesztivál és Levendula Hetek) are organized each summer.  From its programs, “Harvest Yourself!”(“Szedd Magad”) is exceptional, in the course of which the participants can harvest the lavenders to be purchased themselves in the purple, fragrant field. The longest pier of the lake is here, along which a wonderful park, imposing lines of shops and restaurants were established. You can get to the Sipos mountain overlook (Sipos hegyi kilátó) on a forest road, from there all of the Balaton can be seen, in a manner which is exceptional on the Southern shore.
