Duna Wellness Hotel, Baja
The Duna Wellness Hotel is the only hotel of Baja, situated in the heart of the town, yet it is quiet, calm and friendly. From the windows of the rooms guests can have an excellent sight of the river Sugovica, Petőfi island (Petőfi-sziget) or the Szentháromság square, which, being paved with granite cubes, is exceptional in Central Europe.

Baja and its vicinity
Baja is 206 km away from the airport of Budapest (Liszt Ferenc Airport) on the bank of the river Danube, in a picturesque environment. The town is “the capital of fish soup”, everyone who likes coursed made of fish must taste the famous Baja fish soup. Several local gastronomical specialties and the wines of the Hajós-Baja wine region also enhance culinary pleasures. The wonderful Gemenc forest (Gemenci erdő), a small bit of Amazonas in Hungary, is at the town border. It became a favorite travel destination for tourists due to its special beauty, unique wildlife. The Petőfi island (Petőfi-sziget) can be accessed by crossing the bridge over the Sugovica river; you can rent equipment here for doing water sports but you can also swim or fish. The Nagy-Pandúr island (Nagy-Pandúr-sziget) has similar characteristics, with a special educational path. The Sugovica river is so suitable for swimming that some parts of it function as open beach in the summer. You can have special water experiences at the sandy beaches. Those who prefer swimming in constructed pools can also find what they want, they can swim in the Baja Sports Swimming Pool (Bajai Sportuszoda) (also located on Petőfi island), where you can enjoy the fixed surface swimming pool, training pool, massage pool, Finnish and infra sauna, and steam cabin.
On land the Adventure Park (Kalandpark) takes care of adrenaline, through the cableways, the obstacle course, sliding course and the labyrinth made for children. One cannot get bored in this town in the winter either, on the one hand the sight of sleeping nature covered by snow is amazing, and on the other you can sleigh down from the top of the hills in the town and skate on the Baja artificial ice skating rink (Bajai Műjégpálya).
The traditional sightseeing horse carriage riding, horse riding, wine tastings, paintball, bowling, squash, tennis, panoramic flights can also be excellent choices; you can also explore the region in the course of tours on foot, with motorboat, kayak, canoe, on two wheels using a bicycle route, or getting on the forest narrow gauge train. You can arrive during any of the seasons, it is guaranteed you will not get bored!
Besides the spectacles and entertainment options of the town the neighboring town also offer several programs, like Kalocsa, Lake Szelid, the Kiskunság National Park, Szekszárd, Dávod, Harkány, Siklós, Villány, Mohács, the Danube-Drava National Park, Pécs, Orfű and Abaliget.
The town of Kalocsa is famous for the Kalocsa pattern and porcelain production, but it is worth visiting the Great Cathedral (Főszékesegyház), the Archbishop’s Palace (Érseki Palota), Treasury and Library (Kincstár és Könyvtár), the Astronomical Observatory (Csillagászati Obszervatórium), the Paprika Museum (Paprika Múzeum), the Folklore House (Népművészeti Ház), the Schöffer Tower (Schöffer-torony), or the Archbishop’s Garden (Érsekkert). In the course of an interactive factory visit you can see all the processes of porcelain production from casting to baking in the Kalocsa Porcelain Manufacture (Kalocsai Porcelán Manufaktúra). In the Csajda Gardens Swimming Pool and Thermal Baths (Csajda Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda) 2 thermal baths, a swimming pool, a training pool and a Finnish sauna help to relax and refresh. The thermal water is 35 degrees warm, greatly appropriate for treating musculoskeletal, joint diseases. You can participate in night swimming on Saturdays. The gastronomy of Kalocsa is mostly characterized by the increased use of the Kalocsa pepper (kalocsai paprika), main seasoning used by Hungarians and main ingredient of the famous Hungarian goulash and stew. The river Danube flows 5 kilometers from the town, offering several entertainment opportunities. For example beaches, ships, boats, kayaking and cycling.
Lake Szelid and the Kiskunság National Park is also near Kalocsa.
The 5 km long Lake Szelid (Szelidi-tó), the 5th largest lake of Hungary, is one of the most popular hiking destination of the region. Due to the high sodium-magnesium-carbonate and sodium-iodide content of the water it is greatly suitable for treating diseases of the nervous system, hormonal and rheumatic diseases. Catering units, outdoor theatre, outdoor movie theater, playgrounds, beach volleyball, and beach football fields can be found on its sandy beach on the shore, while in the water active entertainment opportunities are provided by a giant water slide, pedaloes, boats, kayaks, canoes and surfing. You can also fish in the lake, ride around it, participate in carriage driving, bird watching or take a nice walk on the educational path surrounding the lake or go hiking on two wheels. Not only the days, the nights are also full of life in the summer, wild street parties and disco provides fun besides sipping wine in cozy taverns. Lake Szelid is surrounded by a 360 hectares large natural protection area, a true jewel of Kiskunság National Park (Kiskunsági Nemzeti Park) in the summer and in the winter alike, due to its rich wildlife.
Szekszárd is the center of the Szekszárd wine region, with almost as many as 4500 wine cellars. In most of the wineries you can participate in wine tastings, made even more enjoyable by delicious meals, and you can learn about the profession of wine production in the wine museums. The menus of the wine restaurants offer a wide selection, so you will definitely not go hungry in Szekszárd. The seasonally open Szekszárd Family Friendly Beach and Spa (Szekszárdi Családbarát Strand- és Élményfürdő) has seven pools, giant slides, huge green areas, sports venues, playgrounds, and several really family friendly services for guests wishing to rest and relax. Off-season an indoor swimming pool operates in the area of the beach with a sauna. The Kerekes Tennis and Squash Club (Kerekes Tenisz és Squash Klub) was established near the Town Sports Center (Városi Spotcentrum), with 3 squash fields, 9 outdoor cinder and 3 indoor tennis fields, with sauna and steam cabin. Besides that there are events, festivals all year round for visitors, so Szekszárd can truly be considered the town of wine, culture, sports and free time.
Dávod is famous for the Thermal Bath and Beach (Gyógy-és Strandfürdő) (seasonally open) where those who wish to have a good swim in the heat can find thermal pool, spa, swimming pool, children’s pool, slide park, pirate ship and sports venues. The Dávod thermal water contains calcium, magnesium , and belongs to the group of alkaline – calcium – hydrogen- carbonated, chloride-fluoride containing thermal waters, due to which it is exceptionally suitable for treating gynecological and musculoskeletal diseases, soft tissue rheumatism, osteroarthritis or even degenerative diseases of bones and joints, rheumatic pains, spinal problems, diseases of the digestive system and the gallbladder, metabolic disturbances, skin diseases or for the post-treatment of problems due to accidents, other injuries.
In Harkány the Harkány Thermal Spa (Harkányi Gyógy- és Strandfürdő) provides fantastic entertainment opportunities for children and adults alike. The thermal water, unique in Europe, comes from a depth of 50-70 m, with an average temperature of 62 oC. This water, rich in minerals and ions, contains a large amount of sulfides and Sulphur, the primary effect of which is its antispasmodic and muscle relaxant quality. It also effectively heals inflammations, accelerates the regeneration of cells, and makes most musculoskeletal, rheumatic and joint diseases lose symptoms. It is internationally acknowledged that this water can achieve a long-term decrease of psoriasis, to which disease no other cure has been found yet. Its positive effect was also proven in the field of gynecology; the thermal water can cure infertility, abnormalities caused by pelvic inflammation, and other problems as well.
4 thermal pools operate in the thermal bath part of the Harkány Thermal Spa every day of the year, from which 2 are indoor ones and 2 are outdoor ones, with a temperature between 34 oC and 38 oC. You can enhance the atmosphere of bathing by resting in the hot tub in the loft, in a Jacuzzi or in a relaxing pool.
In the wellness unit you can find sauna, steam cabin, several massage types, and other treatments, like steam capsule. There are fixed surface swimming pool, children’s pool, slide and outdoor pools in the beach part. The outdoor pools are open from May until October: hot water pool, Jacuzzi, swimming pool, 2 “butterfly” pools, slide pool and sauna diving pool. There are 20 restaurants, 15 buffets, and a further 59 shops and other services for the guests in the area of the beach. You can connect swimming to active sports activities, like water volleyball, aquafitness, water dance, beach volleyball, beach football, bowling, table tennis and baby swimming. In Siklós, in the 3 level complex of the Thermal Spa Siklós you can find a total of 12 pools, among them Turkish bath, floating bath, 3 children’s pools with water toys, slides, swimming pool, hot water thermal pools, giant slides, sports venues, saunas, aroma and steam cabins. Besides the bath visiting the Castle of Siklós (Siklósi Vár) can be a great program, there are several events to make the visit more colorful.

Mohács, as a historical site, is a monument to an event which is important not only for Hungary but for all of Europe as well. The battle of Mohács took place in 1526, when the Hungarian army fought heroically, outnumbered several times over against the Turkish army, led by Sultan Suleiman, and suffered a severe defeat. Their story was preserved until this day and we can remember them at several sites.
In the Danube-Drava National Park (Duna-Dráva Nemzeti Park), besides viewing the amazing flora and fauna and walking through the educational paths you can participate in canoe tours and cave adventure tours, and you can go around some parts with a forest narrow gauge train.
Pécs is a bustling city, home to several theatres, museums, events and festivals. Among other spectacles you can find here the museum of the Zsolnay porcelain (Zsolnay procelán), famous worldwide, or the newest zoo and aquarium-terrarium, the Pécs Zoo (Pécsi Állatkert). In the installation named Berek a five pole water ski- wakeboard course and an indoor riding arena provide great program opportunities. The snow-covered slopes do not disappoint those who like winter sports in the winter, several ski resorts operate in Pécs and in its vicinity.
Orfű near Pécs is a fantastic town, full of life, festivals, events. 3 lakes offer entertainment and relaxation opportunities at its open water and developed beaches. Besides this, you can use sports venues, ride horses, kayak, sail, and boat as well.
The longest cave with a spring in the Mecsek mountains, the Abaliget Dripstone Cave and Bat Museum (Abaligeti Cseppkőbarlang és Denevérmúzeum) can be visited a couple minutes from Orfű, in Abaliget.
